What Lapilita publishes and where to start

Lapilita is a small, independent website that explains skincare and cosmetic treatments for Australian readers. We publish free guides, a cost guide, a mistakes-to-avoid series, a Journal of longer articles and answers to reader questions.

We don’t run a clinic or salon and we don’t sell treatments, so nothing on this site is trying to book you in. This page shows what each section covers and which one suits where you are right now.

What's on Lapilita

Skincare and treatment guides

Plain-English explainers on skincare basics and on how common treatments work, including facials, chemical peels, LED light therapy, microneedling, laser and IPL, with a neutral overview of injectables. Each guide covers what’s involved, downtime, aftercare and who should see a GP or dermatologist first. Browse the skincare and treatment guides.

Treatment costs and budgets

One cost guide with typical Australian price ranges for each treatment, the number of sessions usually needed, and what maintenance and aftercare products add. Every range shows the date it was checked and its source, and each treatment gets a plain “worth it if… / skip it if…” verdict. See what treatments cost.

Mistakes to avoid

The decisions people regret, set out before you make them: booking on price alone, not checking who performs the treatment, skipping aftercare or patch tests, and stacking too many treatments too soon. Read the mistakes to avoid.

The Journal

Longer, bylined articles for topics that need more room than a guide, such as comparisons of treatments that are easy to mix up. Find out what the Journal covers.

Reader questions and corrections

If a guide doesn’t cover your situation, or you spot something wrong or out of date, you can write to us. Useful questions shape what we write next. See how reader questions work.

Where should you start?

Where should you start?

That depends on how far along you are. Every guide stands on its own, so you don’t need to read anything else first.

  • New to treatments, or sorting out a basic routine? Start with the skincare and treatment guides. They assume no prior knowledge.
  • Already weighing up a specific treatment? Go to the cost guide for dated price ranges and a verdict on whether it’s worth it.
  • Close to booking? Read the mistakes to avoid and take its checklist to your consult.
  • Can’t find your answer? Ask us a question.

What we don't do

Lapilita is a reading site. We don’t perform treatments, run a salon or clinic, sell skincare products or take bookings. We also don’t give personal skin assessments or recommend specific clinics or practitioners by name.

Everything here is general information, not medical advice. If you have a skin condition, a reaction or a medical concern, see a GP, dermatologist or registered practitioner. Our guides can help you work out what to ask them.

How you can check our work

Every article shows who wrote it, when it was published and when it was last reviewed, with its sources listed. We show our reasoning, not just the conclusion, and we say so when the evidence is thin. When another source covers a topic more carefully, we link to it.

We update pages in place rather than republishing them under new dates, so saved links keep working. Read more about Lapilita and who writes it.
