08 · MISTAKES TO AVOID · A CHECKLIST

What to avoid
before you commit to a treatment

Four plain checks for the moment just before you say yes. They won’t tell you whether a treatment is right for you. They will help you make that call calmly, with the full picture in front of you.

HOW TO USE THIS PAGE

Most regrets aren't dramatic,
they're rushed.

Decisions people later wish they’d made differently tend to share a few ordinary causes: not enough time, not enough of the cost on the table, or information that came only from the person offering the treatment. Read the four checks below once, then keep the short list at the end of the page handy for your consultation.

THE CHECKS, EXPLAINED

Four things to check,
in plain sentences.

None of these is a reason to say no. Each one is simply a question worth answering before you commit.

CHECK 1

Rushing the decision

A consultation can feel like the moment to decide, but it rarely needs to be. Giving yourself a few days afterwards lets you reread your notes, talk it over with someone you trust, and ask the questions that only occur to you once you’re home.

CHECK 2

Comparing single-session quotes

Clinics often quote only a single session. If a treatment usually involves a course, or ongoing maintenance, two single-session prices don’t tell you which option costs less overall. Ask what the whole journey is likely to involve, then compare like with like. Our treatment cost guide explains how.

CHECK 3

Leaving aftercare out of the budget

The appointment is only part of the spend. Aftercare and follow-up are easy to forget when you’re looking at the first figure. Building them into your budget from the start means there are no surprises later. See budgeting for beauty, skincare and cosmetic treatments.

CHECK 4

Relying on information from someone selling it

Most information about treatments comes from people selling them. That doesn’t make it wrong, but it’s worth reading at least one source with nothing to gain from your decision. Look for dated, citable material, and read how we research our guides to see what we look for.

KEEP THIS HANDY · BEFORE YOU SAY YES

The short list,
for your consultation.

☐   I’ve had time to think since the consultation.

☐   I know how many sessions, and any maintenance, are likely.

☐   My budget includes aftercare, not just the first appointment.

☐   I’ve read at least one source that isn’t selling this treatment.

☐   I know who to ask if I have questions afterwards.

If you can tick every line, you’re making a considered decision, whichever way it goes.

WHEN THIS ISN’T THE RIGHT PAGE

Already had a treatment,
and something feels wrong?

This checklist is for decisions still ahead of you. If you have a skin condition, a reaction or a complication, please speak with a doctor or another qualified health practitioner rather than relying on a guide.
